Treat your guests to opulent outdoor spaces at these updated venues.
1. After opening in January, the Thompson Beverly Hills debuted its rooftop pool lounge and fitness center in June with a party for Gucci. The Dodd Mitchell-designed space known as ABH (for Above Beverly Hills) features private cabana and lounge seating, plus 360-degree views of the surrounding city.
2. Boutique hotel Shutters on the Beach updated restaurant One Pico’s decor and menu in March, then debuted its renovated pool deck and terrace in May. Designer Michael Smith created a beach-resort look for the 85-seat restaurant and hung a collection of antique boat hulls from the rafters. The venue’s updated outdoor space features ocean views and private poolside cabanas and chaise lounges, plus two fi replaces and wireless Internet access. The Pacific Terrace is available for events and accommodates 200 for receptions. Full-service catering is also available.
3. The Event Division is now handling booking for At Sunset, a 3,000-square-foot residence off the Sunset Strip. The venue has a modern interior and panoramic views of Los Angeles from its three balconies and picture windows. Designed by Henrik Hendricksen, At Sunset offers amenities such as nine plasma TVs, a chef’s kitchen with Viking appliances, an in-wall aquarium, a Zen garden, and a bilevel screening room with space for 25.
4. The Peninsula Beverly Hills reopened its roof garden in May after a $4 million renovation. The 6,200-square-foot space holds 150 with a pool, bar, and 48-seat dining terrace. Heated limestone tiles flank the 60-foot pool and Jacuzzi, and a dozen cabanas dot the terrace. Palm trees, jasmine, and wisteria serve as a living backdrop.
5. Beachside bar Malibu Pier Club opened in April on the Malibu Pier. The bar seats 11, while an outside area seats 58. The 2,100-square-foot pier has ocean and Malibu coast views, and seats 150 or holds 200 for receptions. Sister property the Beachcomber, a more formal restaurant with a private dining room, opened in July in one of the 1940s buildings at the pier’s ocean end. The eatery is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
