On February 12, the $50 million Lorien Hotel & Spa opened in Old Town Alexandria, with flexible space for both private events and meetings. Owned and developed by Boston- and Washington-based real estate investment firm DSF Group, and managed by Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, the new property offers 3,500 square feet of meeting space (including landscaped, outdoor terraces), a spa and fitness center, and 107 rooms and suites with contemporary interior decor by New York-based Vincente Wolf Associates.
The first-floor, 730-square-foot Independence meeting room holds 75 for receptions (50 seated) and can be combined with the adjoining 700-square-foot, outdoor, landscaped Freedom Terrace, with space for an additional 40 (25 seated). Nearby, the 1,250-square-foot Liberty space seats 104 and holds 138. In addition, there are three hospitality suites, each with an outdoor terrace (one as large as 700 square feet) with casual seating and views of Old Town. For group bookings: a terrace menu offers private wine tastings, alfresco dining, and everything from dance lessons to sleeping bags to telescopes.
The 4,000-square-foot spa has five treatment rooms and two steam rooms. There is a full range of exercise equipment in the 24-hour fitness center, where personal training and private or group yoga classes are available by appointment. The Wolf-designed guest rooms and suites have a residential feel, a palette of robin’s egg blue, gray, and white, custom-made wing chairs, and trellis-style headboards.
Room and catering services are under the direction of chef Robert Wiedmaier, owner of Marcel’s and Brasserie Beck in D.C. The noted chef’s newest venues, Brabo by Robert Wiedmaier and Brabo Tasting Room, are on either side of the hotel’s courtyard entrance.
