Departures magazine feted its China issue with a modern-looking party that echoed the country’s artistic heritage. The magazine’s senior marketing manager, Courtney Colwell, worked with EventQuest to make over Lux Studios’s raw space as a lounge rich with traditional Chinese colors and decor.
EventQuest created sections of low seating covered with silk in tones of scarlet, orange-red, and gold. Surrounding the seating were large, changing projections of Chinese landscapes and symbols, and the space was dappled with the shadow of a lattice pattern akin to a traditional carved wood screen. Floral arrangements mixed Chinese lanterns, gerbera daisies, magnolia leaves, and apple branches.
In addition to Asian-inspired items from Taste Caterers like saffron-scented crab salad and five-spice tuna tartar on lotus chips, chefs from the Mandarin Oriental New York and the Peninsula hotels in Hong Kong and Beijing prepared tastings, paired with wines provided by Frederick Wildman and Sons.

To showcase Departures magazine’s China issue, EventQuest created lounges in traditional Chinese hues of red, orange, and gold.

Bamboo covered the fronts of bars and a lattice pattern reminiscent of carved wood screens was projected onto the wall.

Taste Caterers passed Chinese-influenced fare, including tuna tartar with traditional five-spice flavoring on lotus chips.

Floral arrangements featured a mix including Chinese lantern plants, magnolia leaves, and apple branches.
