West Hollywood’s Beachy New Lounge

E680001 152
Sunset Beach is scheduled to open in mid-October on the site of the late Dublin’s, a rowdy Irish bar that irked West Hollywood officials during its dozen years on the planet. Sunset Beach owner James Castro, an investment banker by day, promised the city an upscale restaurant and lounge when he acquired the property two summers ago. What he has come up with is a beachy, modern bilevel venue designed by Rhetroactive, which has 13,000 square feet accommodating more than 600 guests. The ground floor is a casual, sprawling lounge with a 40-foot bar, umbrella-shaped ceiling, and sunset mural painted by Brooke Casey. Upstairs is UV, a dining room that seats 150 people and serves modern American cuisine by chef Joseph Gillard, formerly of the Patina Group. Also available are private dining rooms and cabanas seating 12. —Irene Lacher
