Chef Susur Lee—arguably Toronto's most notable chef—will close his King Street restaurant Susur on May 31 and depart for New York, reports James Chatto on his Toronto Life blog. Lee is scheduled to open a still-to-be-named restaurant in September at a new Thompson Group hotel on Manhattan's Lower East Side. The Asian-inspired fusion cuisine at Susur, which launched in 2000, has garnered international praise and led Lee to compete on Iron Chef America. His second Toronto restaurant, Lee (run by chef Jason Carter), will remain open.
