Fashion and French Fare Meet at the 24-Hour Mode Downtown

The only name for a restaurant in the fashion district with a 40-foot plexiglass runway down the middle of the dining room and a French menu must be Mode. Owned by Tony Jones, who also owns Royale on Wilshire Boulevard, the 24-hour Mode has officially opened, after delays. Designed by Built Inc., the dining room sports white vinyl booths and banquettes, orange and yellow dome light fixtures, and a photo mural of celebrating Angelenos spanning the length of the space. In front, a retractable glass garage door opens to the street. Upstairs, a private room has a wall designed for use on photo shoots, white and brown Ultrasuede furniture, and a marble bathroom with a steam shower, Aveda amenities, and a 10-person Jacuzzi with a flat-screen TV. Chef Eric Ernest, also from Royale, has created a menu of French-inspired fare such as onion soup with Gruyère, steak frites, and brioche French toast for the late-night crowds. The 4,000-square-foot venue holds 150 for seated events or 250 for receptions.
