The launch party on Wednesday for the new Reader's Digest magazine Best Health focused on practicing what the publication preaches. Working with Maverick PR, Best Health associate publisher Michelle Kellner and a marketing team put together an interactive event at Muzik for a crowd of close to 400 people, including advertisers, journalists, and contributors. "The idea was to get people to experience the magazine's pages and get them inspired," Kellner said.
Four stations modeled after the four main sections of the magazine encouraged guests to participate in the publication's theme of healthy living. At the "Eat Well" station, chef Paul Finkelstein (of the Food Network show Fink) demonstrated how to make sushi pockets, one of his healthy lunch suggestions in the premiere issue. Yoga and Pilates instructor Annabel Fitzsimmons showed people exercises at the "Get Healthy" station, which also included a Minute Maid juice bar.Guests could have sloganed T-shirts made at the "Embrace Life" area and makeup touch-ups in Muzik's Stila Beauty Lounge, which served as the "Look Great" station. "One of our ideas was having a beauty bar, so having the Stila Lounge here was one of the big factors of why we chose this venue," said Colleen Uncao of Maverick PR.
Comedian Jessica Holmes took to the stage to introduce the magazine, and caterwaiters served finger foods like rice-paper wraps with mango, mint, and red pepper, rack of lamb with sun-dried tomato, and sushi. In an effort to pamper guests, the invitation for the event included a Cake Beauty hand lotion and a candle, while gift bags included Stila lip liner and eye cream, a loofah mitt, and Calvin Klein's Eternity fragrance.
