In mid-April, O'Shaughnessy's Public House overtook the former Zephyr Ice Cream Restaurant space in Ravenswood, giving planners an authentic-feeling Irish spot for groups who need to convene north of the city.
O'Shaughnessy's co-owner Michael Finan (wife Liz is the other owner) applied his experience as a carpenter to gutting and remodeling the 4,000-square-foot space, which now features a custom-made, wraparound bar, two fireplaces, and ornate ceiling tiles. The entire space is available for buyouts and can host 250 guests for cocktails and seat roughly 190.Aside from stools sidled up to the wraparound bar, the restaurant's main room provides seating at high-top tables or in cushy benches that line the wall. A fireplace is topped with a flat-screen TV than can be hooked up to laptops or DVD players. Another fireplace, which is again topped with a flat-screen TV, anchors an 1,800-square-foot back room, which houses its own custom bar and can seat around 60 guests or host 100 for cocktails.
Overseen by executive chef Tom Chapman (formerly of the Drake), O'Shaughnessy's menu features a roster of traditional Irish fare, including bangers and mash, fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and mussels soaked in a Guinness-and-garlic sauce.
