The former Meritage Café space in Bucktown got a makeover this July when Jason Freiman, Peter Gogarty, and Nick Podesta of popular West Loop nightclub Lumen took over the vacant spot. The revamped and renovated space, named Duchamp after the French artist Marcel Duchamp, now offers an assortment of contemporary American dishes, crafted by chef Michael Taus of the River North restaurant Zealous.
The restaurant’s interior, illuminated by cove lighting, uses rustic materials like warm walnut and reclaimed textiles. A private dining room seats 30 to 35 guests at a communal table and, in addition to a private bar and bathroom, offers patio access.
Some of Taus’ highlights include Asian-inspired entrees like the “East-Meets-West” hot wings and the “Return to Thailand" bouillabaisse. Taus’ signature Duchamp burger is a house favorite, as is his take on the American classic steak-and-eggs, prepared with Parmesan smoked bacon quiche and roasted shallot sauce. Duchamp’s dessert menu changes daily to reflect the freshest ingredients. Menus can be customized for private events.
Duchamp is available for full buyouts and can hold as many as 180 guests for a reception. Additionally, audio and video capabilities are available for presentations or slide shows.
