Shop for a Cure

Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour kicked off the 2008 Key to the Cure fund-raising weekend last night with food, entertainment, and of course, shopping.

October 16, 2008

To raise funds for breast cancer research and capitalize on its customers' love of shopping and good food, Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour kicked off its annual Key to the Cure charity shopping extravaganza last night with gourmet food, entertainment, and some good old-fashioned shopping. Today through Sunday, a portion of the weekend's proceeds will be donated to the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center through the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund.

Throughout the three-floor store, nearly 30 caterers and top South Florida-restaurant chefs set up food stations for guests to partake as they shopped.

Big names such as A Joy Wallace Catering, Production and Design Team-a title sponsor along with Ocean Drive magazine and Mercedes-Benz-2Taste Catering, 1 Bleu at the Regent Bal Harbour, Blue Door at Delano, the Setai, Chef Allen's, and Tuscan Steak were all in attendance. Grey Goose vodka, along with the Little Black Dress project, served wine and cocktails on each floor. Additionally, Red Bull promoters wandered throughout the store with drinks and directed guests to the company's Champbull bar, on the second floor, serving champagne and Red Bull cocktails.

DJ Irie, DJ Mark Levanthal, and Elaine Lancaster provided the night's entertainment on each floor.

Saks nationwide will donate 2 percent of the weekend's profits, up to $1 million, to the fight against women's cancer.
