For meeting breaks or casual office gatherings, try these updated takes on classic childhood treats. These desserts can give attendees the energy they need to get through a long day of sessions or lend a festive feel to casual workplace parties.
1. Plush Puffs offer an updated take on basic marshmallows—a good match for coffee or hot chocolate during a break. The company offers six flavors of the snacks—vanilla bean, caramel swirl, chocolate chipetta, simply s’mores, luscious lemony meringue, and peppi-mint—and will deliver for events. Planners get wholesale prices on packaged products and bulk goods; packages sell for $43.13 per 12-bag case, or $22.00 for two-pound bulk bags. Plush Puffs ships around the U.S.
2. Xooro—which recently opened a second location on Melrose Avenue—makes Spanish fritters, not to be confused with ordinary churros. The treats are made using all-natural ingredients and healthy frying techniques (using rice bran oil), and can be filled with sweets like Nutella, chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, dulce de leche, and lemon crème. Toppings include coconut, walnuts, or sprinkles in dark or white chocolate. A gluten-free Xooro is also available. The sweets come in one size and range in price from $3.69 to $4.20. For orders over 1,000, there is a 20 percent discount.
3. Milk & Krunchies, which creates grown-up takes on Rice Krispies treats, has just released a new flavor called Old Skool—a low-fat version of the original. Other flavors include peanut buttercup laced with milk chocolate; DJ AM's Toffee Mix (he is a partner); and PB&J Sandwich (made with strawberry jelly and peanut butter). The company delivers for events, and the price per treat ranges from around $3.25 to $3.50. They can also be ordered online and shipped around the U.S.
4. Silver Moon Desserts makes liqueur-laced ice cream that would be fitting for an end-of-the-day reception. The company has patented a way to freeze alcohol and combine it with artisanal ice creams and sorbets. Silver Moon uses liqueurs such as Chambord, Frangelico, and Cointreau, plus ingredients like imported cherries, Belgian chocolate, mango, and lime puree. The company offers 14 flavors for events. Silver Moon Desserts ships its products on dry ice in ready-to-serve portions; to serve about 200 guests, expect to spend about $180 plus shipping.
