When celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito launched a new cookware line with QVC at his eatery Rocco's 22nd Street, he made guests work for their lunch. The restaurant set up individual cooking stations around the dining room, and broke the press attendees into small groups to prepare their own omelettes in sauté pans from the new Rocco Cookware line. The flirty chef flitted from table to table assessing the groups' creations, praising successes and critiquing failures. But even if disinclined guests burned their meal or dropped it on the floor (yes, mistakes were made), they didn't go hungry: Waiters served a sit-down lunch of mushroom bouillon, miso salmon and gelato-topped cheesecake following the hands-on demo. A bonus: Gift bags included sauté pans from the collection to give guests a second chance to try the omelette at home.
