Hollywood Roosevelt Mixes It Up

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s dramatic overhaul by interior designer du jour Dodd Mitchell will hit its final stretch on May 1 when the hotel will quietly reopen the Gable/Lombard penthouse—so called because the glamorous couple were said to canoodle there. The three-floor, 2,800-square-foot space will retain some of the original furnishings from the period, such as a rosewood bar and a black crocodile leather dining table surrounded by Mies Van der Rohe chairs. Other event-friendly amenities will include three plasma televisions, a Jacuzzi, a wet bar, and a private deck with a view from downtown to the ocean.

That should somewhat soften the grumbling of naysayers who are predicting that the hotel’s blazing nightlife scene is over because it has terminated the contract of promoter Amanda Scheer Demme. Demme made national headlines after turning the hotel’s bars—the Tropicana and Teddy’s—into party central for the don’t-have-to-get-up-in-the-morning set (and plenty of events sprouted there). Teddy’s will be closed while the hotel looks for a new promoter, but the Tropicana will still serve poolside drinks.
