Area is the latest entry in Sam Nazarian, Reza Roohi, and Brent Bolthouse’s ever-expanding empire of hipper-than-thou nightspots, which also includes Hyde Lounge, Privilege, and Lobby Supper Club (under the SBE umbrella). Inspired by Los Angeles’s Case Study houses, Beau Robb created a mid-century modern look in white and earth tones with such classics as Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona chairs in white leather, George Nelson lighting, and caramel-flecked terrazzo on top of the bars as well as the floors. Robb carved out intimate clusters of living-room seating within the sprawling, 3,500-square-foot club. One side opens onto a breezy terrace with additional seating. Area accommodates 500 guests. —Irene Lacher
