The theme of Bell Canada's Toronto International Film Festival after-party for After the Wedding didn't stray far from the film's subject matter. The decor for the event, held at Roy Thompson Hall, reflected both the hope and optimism of marriage and the darkness and emotional complexity that often emerges as lives and relationships evolve.Hope Fridall, Bell's associate director of corporate events and sponsorships, worked with Daniel et Daniel Event Creation & Catering to plan and execute the gala event. They created a light and airy ambiance in the tented patio reception area to represent the wedding and chose a largely dark colour palette for the indoor seated dinner space to reflect the challenges of married life. "The movie's portrayal of marriage is quite devastating, so we actually took a more uplifting approach, creating a vibe that was a little more cheery and fun on the patio," noted Hope.
The reception decor included long, high mirrored tables surrounded by ghost bar stools from Contemporary Furniture Rentals and white floral bouquets from Crimson Florals. A silver settee topped by lush florals occupied the centre of the space. Caterwaiters dressed as brides and grooms passed appetizers, often walking on an iconic white runner covered in rose petals. Black linen table cloths from Around the Table set a gloomy tone in the dining area. Dark-red glass charger plates and black burgee lamps contributed to the murky, shadowy atmosphere. However, these decor features were balanced by cheerful white cups and saucers, playful clear-glass stemware, and red floral bouquets, ensuring the mood did not veer too far into the emotional darkness portrayed in the movie.

Black satin table linens and black burgee lamps helped conjure a sense of gloom in the dining area to reflect the film's emotionally draining portrayal of married life.

White cups and saucers and playful glass stemware from Chair-man Mills countered the gloom with a balancing sense of hope and optimism.
