1. PREAKNESS STAKES DRAWS RECORD ATTENDANCE: The 140th Preakness Stakes in Baltimore attracted 131,680 fans, a record, despite a thunderstorm and a water main break that forced Pimlico Race Course to close the venue’s bathrooms. The win by Kentucky Derby champion American Pharaoh sets up an exciting race at the Belmont Stakes with horse racing’s Triple Crown in play. Louisville Business First: “Domino Sugar, Dewalt and Transamerica were among the companies hosting corporate parties, and Under Armour Inc.’s tent was a hot spot for big names in professional and college sports. … To grow the event further, Maryland Jockey Club general manager Sal Sinatra has floated the idea of holding the race on a Sunday rather than Saturday, and potentially relocating it from Pimlico to Laurel Park.” http://bit.ly/1L15H6l
2. HELICOPTER RIDES IMPRESS CANNES GUESTS: Luxury event transportation has moved from limousine to helicopter at the Cannes Film Festival, where one exclusive event used helicopters to shuttle in guests. Hollywood Reporter: “Veteran talent agent David Unger added an extra wow factor to his party Sunday afternoon for Three Six Zero Entertainment, the new management/production offshoot of the music powerhouse that he runs with Mark Gillespie and Dean Wilson in partnership with Jay Z’s Roc Nation. He offered a helicopter ride to guests who wanted one instead of the 30-40 minute car trip. … Unger’s former company Resolution started the helicopter party tradition last year as a way to impress investors and clients, and while Resolution no longer exists, the party endures under the new banner.” http://bit.ly/1L162Gg
3. LIVE NATION AND UBER ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP FOR EVENTS: Transportation to and from summer concerts should be easier—or at least more organized—with a nationwide partnership between Live Nationa and Uber. L.A. Biz: “Event producer Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and ridesharing service Uber have formed a marketing partnership to transport concert and festival goers to and from 20 music festivals and 62 Live Nation venues across the country this year.” http://bit.ly/1EWIVZT
