Roots unveiled the brand's first eco-fragrances for women—Roots Source Bamboo and Roots Source Red Tea—at a media event in the Roots Rosedale shop Tuesday. Roots, which developed the new scents in collaboration with Coty Canada, chose the location because it houses the Roots Yoga Studio, built almost entirely from bamboo. "The fragrances are an extension of the Roots culture and lifestyle," Michael Budman, cofounder of Roots, said during a presentation at the media preview.
The partnership between Roots and Coty Canada is the seventh collaboration between the two companies. “The natural philosophy and commitment to the environment of Roots makes it perfect for an eco-fragrance,” said Coty Canada president Jeffery Wagstaff. “The launch of Roots Source marks an increased effort on our part to create an eco-friendlier product, including our attention to its packaging.”
Roots and Coty invited members of the local beauty press to the morning launch. Servers offered hors d'oeuvres from Lindsey Shaw Catering, including mini tuna fritattas and fresh figs dipped in chocolate. Green and white ottomans and wooden tree stumps from Contemporary Furniture Rentals provided seating at the front of the shop, where four pillars served as display areas for the new fragrances. An oversize image from the ad campaign—with the tagline "It's sexy being green"—hung on the wall. "We wanted to highlight the fragrances and create a holistic message," Wagstaff said of the decor. "This could easily be the look of the store."
