Carlson Marketing Group threw a party for 500 employees and their guests at the Hilton Toronto hotel. Suzanne Sanelli, Carlson's senior finance manager and chairwoman of the firm's social committee, hired Aaron Kaufman of 5th Element Events to produce the annual event, with instructions to make it "classy, semiformal, and fun."
For the reception, Kaufman transformed the hall outside the ballroom into an elegant lounge, complete with an ice bar from Iceman and square cocktail tables wrapped in white linen and topped with flower-basket centrepieces from Around the Table. Kaufman also brought in projector equipment to emblazon the words "Carlson Lounge" on one of the hallway walls. Inside the ballroom, shimmering linen in red or black covered each dining table. The centrepieces were outsize martini glasses filled with brightly coloured flowers.
