Back at Gotham Hall for the second year after many years at the Plaza, public television networks Channel 13/WNET and Channel 21/WLIW hosted their Gala Salute for 425 guests and honored individuals who have played a significant role in supporting public television.Hilary S. Vlachos, WNET’s managing director of development relations, oversaw the fund-raiser. This year’s event paid tribute to crooner (and painter) Tony Bennett, Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr., JPMorgan Chase chairman William Harrison, and Sotheby’s chairman and Shubert Foundation president Michael Sovern.
Van Vliet & Trap alternated three shimmering, elegant colors for guests’ tables, in shades of pale purple, green, and gold. Danny Meyer’s new Hudson Yards Catering operation served a simple, sophisticated menu, which included jumbo.phparagus salad plated with American caviar and lemon-dill dressing for the first course, an Arctic char with salsify, fingerling potatoes, and pea shoots and black truffle vinaigrette entree, and lemon semifreddo with lemon-poppyseed pound cake and strawberry soup for dessert.
