Los Angeles' New Multimedia Complex

A large new high-tech space is opening on the West Coast. Federico Pignatelli has brought his New York-based Pier 59 Studios to Bergamot Station, the 130-year-old converted railroad station in Santa Monica now filled with art retailers and galleries. The new 27,000-square-foot space, Pier 59 Studios West (2415 Michigan Ave., 310.829.5959) is slated to open in November, and will offer an array of state-of-the-art equipment and lighting gear. Four studios each have private bathrooms, showers, and lofts that can be used as changing rooms with makeup and hair stations. A bar and dining area are shared among them. The walls of these spaces can be pushed back to make a large open area. Architectural details include modern sculpture. —Alisandra Puliti
