Since the demise of Toronto Fashion Week, TOMFW donned the mantle of most influential fashion event in Canada. The twice-yearly happening, which launched in 2014, moved to a bigger venue in August, the Mattamy Athletic Centre, to accommodate more than 32,000 dapper dudes. MAC Cosmetics is a key sponsor. #2 Fashion Industry Event
The arts and fashion festival expects to welcome about 5,000 attendees to 50 shows over five days when it returns to Daniels Spectrum next year. The theme for 2016 was Dress Code, and the David Bowie tribute fashion show was the highlight. Next: April 18-22, 2017

#3 Fashion Industry Event (new to the list)
The prime minister’s wife, Sophie Trudeau, presented the Fashion Impact award and Elle Macpherson received the Hudson’s Bay Vanguard award this year, which marked the third year of the event. The Rogers-sponsored gala at the Fairmont Royal York grew to 720 designers, retailers, models, and more. Next: April 2017

#4 Fashion Industry Event (new to the list)
Toronto Premium Outlets was a key sponsor of this year’s sold-out runway show and gala at One King West, which welcomed 300 budding designers and contestants. Suzanne Rogers pledged $25,000 for Most Promising New Label. The event turns 25 in 2017. Next: Spring 2017

#5 Fashion Industry Event
About 4,000 Western Canadian fashion lovers were expected at this fall’s event, where local, national, and international designers showcased spring and summer lines. Shows and competitions were at the ATB Financial Arts Barns again, and Phabrik magazine sponsored. Next: Spring 2017

Vancouver
#6 Fashion Industry Event
With a motto “Fashion for life, not for waste,” ticket sales for the five-day event, sponsored by Value Village, surpassed 18,000 in 2016. For the last runway show, by Prophetik, the audience was invited on stage to dance. Next: Spring 2017
