When guests step into the Field Museum, they’ll journey through time, discover new secrets behind the universe, and be immersed in culture—all while celebrating in open, iconic spaces. As home to the world’s largest dinosaur, Máximo the Titanosaur, the museum has plenty of space to host your event safely. All this space and history in one place can only mean one thing: Guests can gather safely at the Field Museum while still partaking in a truly unique event.

Want to learn more? Let’s take a tour.

Social Distance, Celebrate and Explore

African elephants prepared by famed taxidermist Carl Akeley, living chandeliers of cretaceous period plant-life, flying pterosaurs and, of course, Máximo—all this and more will transport guests to another place (and perhaps a much-needed escape during these trying times) when they attend an event in the Stanley Field Hall, one of Chicago’s premier event spaces.

With vaulted ceilings to promote ventilation and two levels of reception and dining space, as well as access to the museum’s permanent exhibition halls, guests will be able to space out while enjoying all the museum has to offer. Galleries on both levels include collections from Zoology, Anthropology, Botany, and Earth Sciences, while exclusive access to the museum’s ongoing or temporary exhibitions will surely pique guests’ interests.

Hosts can customize any event by making use of the second-floor balcony, or, weather permitting, outdoor terraces and other adjoining spaces, making the occasion a safe but memorable experience.

For Scenic Outside Gatherings

Chicago’s warmer months demand a stunning outdoor space for events. Whether the event is the company picnic or throwing a starlit summer soirĂ©e, the Field Museum’s Outdoor Terraces set the stage for an incredible event with breathtaking views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. With tenting options available upon request, the museum’s terraces also offer a space surrounded by grand architecture, shelter in case of inclement weather, and the ability to gather in a socially distant setting, characterized by large spaces and plenty of fresh air.

Still want to explore inside? (After all, who wouldn’t want to meet Máximo and SUE?!) Museum visits and exhibitions are available on request.

Don’t Miss These Museum Exclusives

Unique to the Field Museum, event planners can add on one-of-a-kind Scientific Upgrades to any event, such as its Pop-Up Curiosities, which provide guests with access to artifacts not on display to the public. The museum’s scientific team may show guests anything from a fruit stand from Ancient Kish, Iraq, a Shipibo knife from Peru to an ancient beer vessel from Egypt (avid beer drinkers will love this one).

Did you know that The Field Museum has nearly 30 million specimens and artifacts? Less than 1% of those are on display to the public! Explore the storerooms and working laboratories that house these exquisite and unique collections during your own Behind the Scenes Tour!

Ideal for VIPs and smaller groups at your event, one of our museum curatorial staff members will lead you into the non-public collections areas. You’ll see specimens and artifacts like those from our oversize anthropology and our cryogenic lab.

When you host an event at the Field Museum, you have peace of mind that there is a breadth of space for a safe event and exciting discoveries to be made.
