The Candler Hotel, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, made its debut in downtown Atlanta in October 2019. Built out within the historic Candler Building—constructed in 1906 by Coca-Cola founder and former Atlanta Mayor Asa Griggs Candler—the 265-room hotel boasts original Beaux-Arts architectural design in addition to 5,835 square feet of event space across nine rooms. The largest space, the 1,736-square-foot Heritage Ballroom, can accommodate as many as 160 guests reception style, while smaller meeting spaces like the 608-square-foot Thornhill Library and 368-square-foot Captains Room fits 20 and 25 guest for reception-style events, respectively. Looking for a talking point to kick off the meeting? The building's original bank vault in the basement (which still stands) is rumored to have housed the coveted Coca-Cola formula.

Following a major renovation, SweetWater Brewery opened a dog-friendly patio and lawn in September. The patio and its taproom are available for private events on Mondays and Tuesdays for as many as 200 guests seated or 600 reception style. The patio includes picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, and drinking games. The brewery also can hold private events seven days a week for as many as 300 guests reception style in the Woodlands room, and for as many as 450 guests reception style in the Reel Room. Along with beer, the venue has a food menu that includes burgers, sandwiches, and upscale bar snacks.

Botiwalla, an Indian restaurant that has a stall in Ponce City Market, opened a new location in Alpharetta in May. Led by chef and restaurateur Meherwan Irani, the eatery serves a variety of Indian staples, as well as cocktails, boozy slushies, and Indian beer. The 1,800-square-foot venue seats 54 guests inside and outside. For private events, the restaurant is available for full buyouts only.

Moxy Atlanta Midtown debuted alongside AC Hotel Atlanta Midtown in January. The 155-room, LEED-certified property was developed by Noble Investment Group, and features a variety of eclectic local artwork—which includes “Welcome Home,” a 54-foot mural by artist Greg Mike. In addition to 300-seat rooftop High Note, the hotel has six meeting and event spaces, including a 100-seat lounge and two meeting rooms that can be combined to hold 100 guests for receptions.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, the Venetian in Las Vegas unveiled an installation inspired by the Year of the Pig. The resort’s floral and horticulture team partnered with a team of artisans and consulted a feng shui master to create an installation anchored by a 3,000-pound, 16-foot-tall golden pig. Additional decor included hanging Chinese lanterns and a base of giant gold coins. According to custom, it is suggested to guests that they walk clockwise around the display three times to bring blessings of heaven, earth, and mankind upon them.

Bud Light held its first music festival for the Super Bowl from January 31 to February 2 at State Farm Arena. The first night, which was presented by EA Sports, paid tribute to Atlanta with rapper Ludacris as the headliner. The stage featured I-85 highway sign replicas that displayed the names of performers. Bud Light worked with On Location Experiences to produce the three-day event.

Punch Bowl Social, a restaurant and activity center with locations across the United States, opened its first Atlanta location at the Battery Atlanta in March. The two-story, 25,000-square-foot venue serves Southern gastropub food and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages—including punch bowls. For events, the entire venue can be booked for as many as 1,000 people, who can play games including bowling, giant Jenga, bocce, ping pong, ‘80s arcade games, wall scrabble, and darts.
