Destination and Commune Hotels Couple Up Before Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air! February—per its reputation—is proving to be the month for matchmaking. Commune Hotels and Resorts (the juggernaut management company over Thompson Hotels, Tommie, Joie de Vivre Hotels and Resorts, and Alila Hotels and Resorts) has found the perfect mate in Destination Hotels (major operator of more than 45 independent hotels and resorts, as well as six IACC-certified conference centers). The two merged in January to become a tour de force operator of independent and lifestyle hotels and resorts around the world. The combined company will be based in Denver and currently has a third party helping create its new name. For corporate and incentive planners, that news translates to 90 properties in seven countries now under one umbrella for future events. Plan sales meetings at Thompson Chicago and incentive meetings at Paradise Point Resort & Spa (shown) in San Diego, perhaps? “Between Destination and Commune, we have complementary footprints and customer bases with very little overlap,” says Andre Fournier, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Destination Hotels. “This means each company immediately gets access to new guests and groups.” Fournier explained that the company will have a larger combined sales, marketing and revenue-management platform and distribution system as well. Planners will hopefully benefit from the increased pricing power and cost-control opportunities.
