Dunwoody, Georgia, Gets a Makeover

Dunwoody, Georgia, is the latest city to welcome a revamp to its hotels.

“Everything Will Be Ok,” is a powerful statement on display at the old smoke house at Spruill Gallery in Dunwoody, Georgia.  The black and white mural, visible from the street, is a real eye-grabber.  Just like the sign leaving a strong impact on passersby, Dunwoody is leaving a lasting impression on planners and attendees with several of its hotels getting multimillion-dollar renovations.

Dunwoody is a suburb of Atlanta that some Fortune 500 companies, including State Farm, call home. The city is brimming with farm-to-table restaurants (such as Farm Burger and Portico) and green spaces, and it’s near MARTA—the region’s subway—for easy access to Atlanta.

“All of our hotels offer shuttle services to the MARTA station, making it a seamless form of transportation for visitors,” said Katie Williams, executive director of Discover Dunwoody.

In addition to the revamped properties, the city will soon welcome a new AC hotel coming at the end of 2020. It will have Dunwoody’s first rooftop bar. Other additions will include a wine bar and dog-friendly restaurant, as well as a network of trails that will be throughout the area.

Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia

Surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees, Crowne Plaza received big upgrades, including revamped meeting space. The hotel has the most meeting space in the Perimeter area with 32,000 square feet of event space, as well as a 12,000-sq.-ft. ballroom, 23 meeting rooms and 495 guest rooms. Guests will love the indoor pool and state-of-the-art fitness center, and they can nosh on Southern favorites at the on-site restaurant, Parkwoods. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to destinations within a 2-mile radius, including Perimeter Mall, which is adjacent to the hotel. Government, corporate and association groups frequently host meetings here.

Perhaps the crown jewel of the renovation is the new whimsical Beer Garden. Attendees will feel as if they have walked into a magical forest with its hanging lights, ample trees and cascading water ponds decorating the garden. You can host a breakout session here, or relax after a day of meetings with a craft beer from The Backyard at Parkwoods.

Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center

The smell of fresh citrus greets you as you walk through the hotel’s lobby doors. Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center recently completed a $15 million renovation in 2019, which included upgrades to its 14 event rooms, 12 breakout rooms, two ballrooms, 344 guest rooms—four which are suites—and the outside terrace. Association, corporate and specialty groups host events here.

The hotel had a busy 2019 hosting the 2019-2020 State Farm’s intern training, as well as the LSU Fighting Tigers band during the 2019 SEC College Championship Bowl Game; it will host the 2020 and 2021 SEC College Championship Bowl game.

The Grand Ballroom has 5,701 square feet of meeting space that can be divided into four separate rooms, and the hotel has a total of 17,837 square feet of event space. You can also host your event on the outside terrace, which is enclosed with wooden slats for an intimate vibe. The Greatroom, a new on-site restaurant serving classic American fare, was also included in the additions.

Le Meridien Atlanta Perimeter

“Unlock Your Destination” is the motto at Le Meridien Atlanta Perimeter. Air France founded the boutique hotel in 1972, and the ambiance and style reflect the aviation world. The goal of the hotel is for guests to have an experience, rather than just a stay. It starts in the lobby or “The Hub” as a callback to Air France. A little further past The Hub, you’ll find a library nook stacked with literature from around the world. For a taste of European cuisine, dine at the on-site restaurant, Portico. The chefs create unique twists on the food using fresh, local ingredients.

Le Meridien regularly hosts corporate events and meetings for Fortune 500 companies. Attendees will find the convenience of having all the event space on one floor. It has 12 meeting rooms that all have floor-to-ceiling windows as well as 10,379 square feet of total event space. The chic Ballroom Salon is a large pre-function area that’s great for a registration setup, and the ballroom has 3,800 square feet of meeting space with retractable walls. The hotel can host up to 500 guests for events. When the meetings are done, you’ll get restful sleep on a king bed, which is in every room with the new renovations.

“Guests are constantly blown away when they walk into our sleeping rooms,” says Michael Harrison, event planning manager of the hotel. “We offer only king-sized beds.”

Embassy Suites by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Center

A $17 million renovation was completed in August 2019 and included full renovations to the atrium, guest rooms and meeting space. The revamp created more open space for the atrium, adding a luxurious ambience.  It went from red and brown sunken floors to a more modern look with neutrals and grays.

All of the 252 rooms were renovated and include a wet bar, refrigerator and 55-inch flat-screen TVs. Guests can enjoy an evening reception of happy hour drinks at The Pointe, a new and full-service restaurant and bar. It’s located in the middle of the atrium and a great spot to socialize and network will fellow guests.

The hotel has five meeting rooms that total 5,000 square feet of space, with the largest one accommodating up to 120 people. The hotel hosts a mix of corporate meetings and social events.
