The folks at Salamander Resort & Spa want you to make yourself at home—an effortless task due to its welcoming living room-esque lobby, cozy library and garden.
No detail is overlooked at the 3-year-old, 168-room, Forbes Four Star-rated resort, from complimentary take-home versions of essential oils used during massages at the spa to pecan scones at turndown each evening.
Though it sits on 340 secluded acres in Virginia Horse Country near the tiny town of Middleburg, the Salamander is surprisingly accessible. About an hour’s drive west of Washington, D.C., the resort is only 35 minutes from Washington Dulles International Airport, making it a major draw for D.C.-based financial, government, insurance and consulting groups.
The property’s 3,100-sq.-ft. Culinary Garden can be set for events for up to 200. Ask about hosting a reception there complete with bourbon tastings, hand-rolled cigars and hors d’oeuvres. Private events can also be held at on-property restaurants Harrimans and Gold Cup.
Salamander’s culinary program is rivaled only by its equestrian influence, from horse bit design details on guest room bedding to its Equi-Spective program, which leads groups in sessions to understand the relationship between horses, humans and nature. Trail rides are another popular option and can be arranged for groups, and a polo match during a reception—or yoga on horseback, if that’s your group’s thing—can be coordinated. The resort’s 14,000-sq.-ft. stable, with its own conference room and lobby, doubles as event space.
