The grand opening weekend of the MGM Grand at Foxwoods—the newest addition to the casino and resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut—is looking to be a Vegas-style affair with some rather opulent parties and A-list celebrities. The latter may have to do with the fact that a portion of the two-day festivities will benefit the Motion Picture and Television Fund, a California-based nonprofit supported by actors such as Michael Douglas and Warren Beatty.
The most interesting aspect might be the Diddy-hosted after-party on Saturday, which will follow a concert with performances by John Mayer and Josh Groban, among others. Miami-based event firm Barton G is taking the venue's 50,000-square-foot ballroom and turning it into a late-night lounge—dubbed Diddy's Den— with 5,000 yards of fabric for the walls, 3,000 sheets of wood for the custom bars, 56 chandeliers, 200 sheets of mirror, 50,000 crystal beads to be hung from the ceiling, and 200 animal-print pillows. Other furnishings include custom seating, 200 barstools, and 150 highboys.
