Lacma and Film Independent Announce Partnership for New Programming

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced Wednesday that it has entered into a partnership with nonprofit arts org Film Independent, which produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival. The collaboration combines Lacma’s efforts in presenting film in an art historical context with Film Independent’s relationships with filmmakers and program- and audience-building expertise. The partnership is effective immediately, with new programming slated to begin in September.

The New York Times will be the sole presenting sponsor of the new series, part of an effort by the national newspaper to cultivate a larger cultural presence in town.

Lacma and Film Independent expect to kick things off in the fall, with previews of feature-length narrative and documentary films, archival films and repertory series, conversations with emerging and established filmmakers and artists, international showcases, family films, and guest-curated programs. In addition, monthly post-screening receptions will bring together the local creative community. Lacma will also continue its Tuesday matinee series and film programs presented in conjunction with special exhibitions.
