TODAY'S CALENDAR: Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival kicks off.

* INCOMING *

1. DONE WITH DOT-COM? Looking for a new Web address? The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which oversees domain names, announced 1,930 applications for new Web suffixes. New York Times: "The expansion creates an opportunity for marketers, who will be able to develop Web sites with addresses ending in their own companies’ brand names, or an entire category of products or services, like .music or .insurance. 'This is an opportunity for brands, cities and countries to step out of what was this very limited—in my view—environment in which they could promote their brands,' said Alex Berry, senior vice president for enterprise services at Neustar, an Internet registry service that is working with clients like New York City, which is seeking the .nyc name. 'This is a positive, a once-in-a-generation opportunity that we’ll look back on 10 years from now and say, Wow.'” http://nyti.ms/MOdpVR

2. DICK CLARK'S COMPANY FOR SALE: Dick Clark Productions—whose properties include the Golden Globe Awards, New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest, the American Music Awards, and So You Think You Can Dance—is considering a sale. Los Angeles Times: "Dick Clark Productions Chief Executive Mark Shapiro said the company hired Raine [Group investment firm] to 'help us think through our options and to organize any conversations with any interested parties.'" http://lat.ms/Nzopro

3. GETTING MORE FROM TWITTER: Twitter's 140-character limit is expanding—for certain media companies. A new feature will allow titles such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and TMZ to include an article's headline, byline, and introductory text. AdWeek: http://bit.ly/M6Akab

4. BEST OF DESIGN MIAMI/BASEL: Here are highlights of this year's Design Miami/Basel, which runs through June 17 and features "nearly 40 galleries displaying furniture and objects from the 20th century to the present, and extracurricular activities that include Design Talks, Design Performances, the W Hotel Designer of the Future Awards and a book shop."
