It had the hazy, steamy look of New York in August, but the inside of the Lladro boutique on West 57th Street was cool and dry for the porcelain company's relaunch party. In an effort to update the company's image--and to shed its association with grandma's porcelain doll collection--Lladro hired Nike Communications to relaunch the brand and its new collection of statues entitled "The Bathers." To emphasize the new collection, Lladro visual manager Horacio Trujillo decorated the store windows with two steamy bathhouse set ups with mirrors and Moroccan tiled walls, and positioned two models from Flaunt Model Management dressed in silver satin wraps in the windows for an eye-catching display for the guests waiting in line outside and anyone else who passed by the store.
Inside, hazers from Scharff Weisberg gave the store a steamy, sultry bathhouse environment--sans actual sweaty people, of course. A giant plasma screen suspended from the third floor played the film Steam: The Turkish Bath. Seating was available in the form of bright red and orange pillows scattered in corners throughout the store.
Caterwaiters from Mood Food--the men in orange waist sashes and head bands and the women in sarong skirts--served Turkish foods like hummus on Turkish bread, Moroccan shrimp with tomato cumin cilantro relish and pistachio cakes with candied rose petals for dessert.
