The Sundance Channel began the second season of its Iconoclast series with actress Isabella Rossellini and inventor Dean Kamen at the American Museum of Natural History’s Cullman Hall in the Rose Center for Earth and Space. The two innovators are featured in an hour-long episode where they discuss their lives in two very different fields. Both subjects posed for photos—Rossellini with a Golden Retriever and Kamen on a Segway, one of his creations—together on a blue carpet courtesy of sponsors Grey Goose Entertainment and Condé Nast Media Group. As guests descended into the museum, they were offered the special Icon Martini made with Grey Goose Vodka with a splash of orange liqueur and garnished with red grapes. Amid the stars and planets, two bars were open to provide the 250 partygoers with drinks, and a dozen round cocktail tables were draped in white cloth and lit with a simple candle. An ice sculpture located between the bars added to the chilly outer space theme of the night.
The indie-folk musical stylings of the California-based band String Theory helped to warm up the room and make the party more festive as mini hors d’oeuvres went around. Sweeping images of geese were projected onto the surface of the hanging planets, while TV screens displayed the Iconoclast episode, and the two stars rode around the party greeting guests on Segways.
The real star of the night turned out to be the puppy Rossellini had carried on the blue carpet. The actress, a volunteer at Future Guide Dogs, convinced Grey Goose to donate to her favorite charity and named the dog “Goose” in the honor of the brand. The little dog lay on a bench in a corner of the room happily rolling around as people rushed over to play with him.
