Black Hollywood came out in force as Black Enterprise magazine celebrated its “Top 50 Hollywood Power Brokers,” and Primetime Omnimedia was committed to producing a smart-looking event for its guests. The party transformed the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons’ massive ballroom into a sea of white and brown. Instead of a traditional red carpet, a mocha-brown carpet showed the way inside. Organizers removed every last bit of hotel furniture to build an environment from the ground up. The tiered ballroom got one large bar in the center and two smaller bars further back, all lit from within. Ketel One also supplied an ice martini bar. In the ballroom’s lower level, guests dined at simple white tables on classic hotel fare like sushi, seafood, and carved meats from the property’s executive chef, Conny Anderson. White orchids from Flaming Florals dotted the venue, creating a contrast with the otherwise brown decor.
“We wanted to create a nontraditional, contemporary flair with the comfort of home entertaining,” said Primetime Omnimedia president and C.E.O. Marilyn Crawford, who oversaw the event. “The mocha-brown theme began at the door with replacing your stable red carpet with mocha, and the mocha stanchions, silk drapes, tapestries, and pillows were brilliant against an all-white sea of vases, tables, lighted bars, and imported exotic white orchids.”
The magazine’s official presentation took about 20 minutes, and drinking and dancing (with music provided by DJ Tendaji) prevailed for the rest of the night, with Vivica A. Fox, Jon Voight, and Serena Williams all hitting the dance floor.
