February 21, 2014: How to Party With Snoop Dogg at SXSW, Preston Bailey’s Rules for Elegance, Where to Hang Out in L.A. During Oscar Week

1. HOW TO PARTY WITH SNOOP DOGG AT SXSW: The vacation rental service Airbnb is sponsoring an Instagram contest for music fans—or anyone else wanting to check out South by Southwest—that offers winners a trip to Austin, Texas, and a meet and greet with Snoop Dogg and other artists at a pop-up activation called Airbnb Park. Mashable: “Airbnb describes the venue, a collaboration with Capitol Records and Cashmere Agency, as 'an oasis amidst the craziness of SXSW, where attendees can enjoy an array of activities day and night including spa treatments, yoga, live music courtesy of emerging acts ranging from bluegrass to rock to hip hop.'” http://on.mash.to/1cxeWgi

2. PRESTON BAILEY’S RULES FOR ELEGANCE: A potential client once refused to hire event designer Preston Bailey because he “lacked elegance,” a charge that stung. So Bailey created a list on his blog of what clients believe is elegance—and where he disagrees: “I personally think there is a fine line between elegance and just plain boring.” http://bit.ly/1fEYFDq

3. WHERE TO HANG OUT IN L.A. DURING OSCAR WEEK: The week leading up to the Academy Awards has turned Los Angeles into even more of a tourist destination, as it’s easier to spot movie stars as they gather at bars, restaurants, and hotels across the city to celebrate their work. Here’s a venue guide to where the best celebrity sightings happen in the lead up to the Oscars. New York Post: “A stay—or even downing cocktails at a glam watering hole at a legendary outpost like the London West Hollywood’s London Bar or the Peninsula’s Roof Garden—can prove utterly memorable, if celebrity watching is your thing. Being a fly on the wall as the Oscar frenzy envelops a hotel lobby, parking lot, or even a hair salon feels like having a walk-on role in a reality TV show.” http://bit.ly/1fmtVL1
