1. THE RISE OF WEDDING AFTER-PARTIES: After-parties are "the new line items in a wedding budget,” whether they are extravagant affairs or casual get-togethers. Boston Globe: “Boston event planner Bryan Rafanelli … has seen the after-party mature into its own affair in the past year or two. ‘They’ve become as standard as throwing the bouquet or cutting the cake.’ The kind of after-parties that Rafanelli plans for his well-heeled clients are often held in a space that’s separate from the wedding reception, a financial investment that translates to about 10 percent of the wedding budget. Think unique lighting and different decor, nitrogen ice cream bars, and late-night comfort food.” http://bit.ly/1tVSJTj
2. MTV ANNOUNCED V.M.A. NOMINATIONS ON SNAPCHAT: In a first, MTV announced nominees for its Video Music Awards on Snapchat, a social media platform that posts 10-second videos. Mashable: "We could have used one person to announce all of them but this is really going to buy us a lot of reach," said Tom Fishman, MTV's vice president of content marketing and fan engagement. The posts reached MTV’s 150,000 followers before they reached the network’s other platforms. http://on.mash.to/1jQYf5D
3. F.A.A. INVESTIGATES PHOTOGRAPHY DRONE AT CONGRESSMAN'S WEDDING: On his wedding day, New York Congressman Sean Maloney had photos taken from a drone, despite a federal ban on using the unmanned vehicles for commercial purposes. Now the Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the matter, although it declined to cite the congressman by name. Associated Press: “The F.A.A has approved a few limited commercial drone operations. But the agency has also been sending letters to commercial operators across the country—including other videographers and companies that hire videographers — to cease their drone flights or face fines.” http://huff.to/1mTAM2W
