1. NEW REALITY SHOW FEATURES LAVISH 40TH BIRTHDAY PARTIES: A new reality show on Bravo, My Fab 40th, is the middle-age answer to MTV’s My Super Sweet 16. The program will feature adults planning lavish birthday parties that spare no expense on decor, entertainment, catering, and more. New York Post: “It’s definitely a growing trend. Now when you turn 40, you’re really finding yourself,” says Maya Kalman, CEO and creative director of Chelsea-based Swank Productions, a luxury wedding and event design firm. “It’s bringing the fun of being a kid to ‘now we’re adults and can afford to have the fun that we want to have.’ It’s being able to throw a party for your friends [that will make them] say ‘That was the most amazing birthday party we’ve ever been to’ — that’s the goal.” http://bit.ly/1TSZbrh
2. NEW FESTIVAL AIMS TO BE COACHELLA FOR BROADWAY: Broadway fans will now have their own festival. Elsie, an inaugural festival co-founded by Glee and musical theater star Darren Criss, will take place in New York on September 27 with backing from Live Nation, iHeartRadio, and Jujamcyn Theaters. Playbill: “I was at Coachella and thought ‘let's do this for showtunes,'” Criss said in a statement. “Musical theater has been going through a wonderful shift in the past few years, from the type of work that’s being produced to the way it’s being consumed by the public. It's more than showtunes on Broadway—it’s songs from film, TV and YouTube. Since the rules were already changing, I figured, why not shake up people’s ideas of where to watch the performers they love.” http://bit.ly/1NkadBr
3. APPLE ANNOUNCES REBRANDED MUSIC FESTIVAL: The Apple Music Festival—the renamed iTunes Music Festival—will take place in London September 19-28 and feature headliners Pharrell Williams, One Direction, and Florence & the Machine. Apple announced the initial lineup on Tuesday, along with the festival’s new name and plans to live stream the festival on its radio station Beats 1. TechCrunch: “The announcement isn’t a surprise, nor is the renaming of the festival. It makes absolute sense that Apple is using all its services and media reach to promote Apple Music to as many potential listeners and customers as possible. … In addition to the music, Apple said it will also broadcast 'backstage news and footage straight from the artists' via Apple Music Connect.” http://tcrn.ch/1NCi3Uc
