So producers for the Reuters Remix Redux party, an annual bash for the company's ad sales clients, turned to renewable-energy provider Sterling Planet and paid for wind power to offset the environmental cost of powering the June 13 event, as well as the Reuters and Nasdaq signs.Strategic Event Design has produced the event for four years, but this was the first year with an environmental focus, said C.E.O. Bethney Ruggiero. The green theme offered another draw in addition to the up-and-coming bands usually featured at the party. This year, acts including Boys Like Girls and Kevin Michael shared top billing with the concept of renewable resources.
The event was Green-e certified through the Center for Resource Solutions, a nonprofit focused on developing energy sources through renewable resources. And to ensure it was legitimately beneficial, planners consulted with the TreeHugger, a Web site devoted to sustainability.
TreeHugger made cards explaining all the green factors involved in producing the event: The team reused the banners from last year’s event, and the party incorporated Anvil organic cotton and hemp T-shirts for uniforms, LED lights, and china instead of paper plates. And the hosts encouraged guests to take public transportation or walk to the party instead of hopping in a cab.
“Like every organization, Reuters is concerned with global warming,” said Liz Airhart, the director of trade marketing at Reuters, who oversaw the event. “We’d like to do our part.”
