The new conference centre being built within the facade of the Automotive Building at Exhibition Place will be called the Allstream Centre. City council has approved a 10-year sponsorship agreement between Exhibition Place and the communications company MTS Allstream Inc. "With the support of MTS Allstream, the Allstream Centre will be a showplace of cutting-edge technology as well as North America's best conference and convention destination," said Exhibition Place chair and deputy mayor Joe Pantalone.
The naming-rights fees will be used to convert the 160,000-square-foot heritage building, which will retain many of the original exterior Art Deco features, into a conference centre designed to meet the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) silver-rating standard. Details of the sponsorship agreement will be made public in the summer of 2009.
