Yesterday, The Los Angeles Times reported that the L.A. Live complex has increased downtown's attractiveness to convention organizers. In the fiscal year that ended June 30, the city’s convention bureau booked 53 future conventions, a 29 percent jump from 2007.
Software company CA Inc. will host CA World in Los Angeles in April 2010, moving the event from its previous home in Las Vegas. The five-day convention will draw about 8,000 people. Bob Million, CA Inc.’s vice president of global event strategy, said that the decision to move locations was made after considering downtown’s regrowth and its proximity to LAX for international attendees who fly in for the event.
