In the last days of 2009, we asked our readers what defined the year for the event industry. Of those who participated in the poll, 39 percent thought that public scrutiny of corporate spending had the biggest impact. Ranking a strong second, with 36 percent of the vote, was budget cuts. Another 18 percent cited reduced staffs, and only 6 percent credited Twitter and other social media.
