Rogers Wireless beamed in actor William Shatner for the launch of the Samsung A706 videophone at the Rogers Toronto Corporate Campus. But, you say, Shatner's iconic space hero, Captain Kirk, never used a videophone in the Star Trek TV and film series. No matter. Kirk embodies the future, and Shatner is a reliable media draw. The event began with an introduction by John Boynton, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Rogers Wireless. Boynton then placed a video call to Shatner in his dressing room, and Shatner appeared on a large screen inserted in a stunning lit wall from McNabb Roick Events. Later, a commercial for the new phone and footage from YouTube.com of a young Shatner also played on the screen. Elizabeth Hamilton, Rogers Wireless' director of corporate communications, said the wall treatment and video screen conveyed a "next generation look and feel" that supported the Rogers brand.
