The TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival, which started Friday and runs through Sunday, is facing poor weather and some lacklustre performances, according to The Toronto Star. Pop and jazz critic Ashante Infantry reports that although the festival is bigger than ever this year with 45 venues, there have been a few setbacks so far—namely, a disappointing performance by Ronnie Spector (performing with "The Grand Divas of R&B," who filled in when Susan Tedeschi pulled out), and cancellations by Michael Legrand and the band E.S.T.
Infantry reports that the festival's 1,000-seat mainstage at Nathan Phillips Square has yet to sell out, but performances by big names like Dave Brubeck and John Scofield later this week are expected to fill the venue.
