F.D.C.C. Confirms New King West Site for LG Fashion Week

The Fashion Design Council of Canada confirmed Friday that LG Fashion Week is moving to a new location at 1030 King St. West in October. "The event has grown significantly and we are exhilarated by the opportunity to expand the space and allow for more participating designers, [larger] audiences, and to keep our runway to the world totally fresh and current," F.D.C.C. president Robin Kay said in a statement.

The F.D.C.C. will present the spring 2010 collections October 19 through 24 on a two-acre site at King and Douro streets. The layout will include a series of tents and the permanent structure on the site (formerly a car dealership), which will enable organizers to create a 15,000-square-foot networking environment and a larger runway than was possible at Nathan Phillips Square.

According to Friday's news release, the F.D.C.C. believes the on-street location will provide easy access for attendees and will "further position LG Fashion Week as the leading event in arts and culture as it will feed directly from this vibrant area, drawing even more attention to this prominent corner, the future site of DNA phase 3 condominiums."

Frank Lee, LG's senior marketing manager, said the company is pleased with the venue choice. "It is no small achievement on the part of the F.D.C.C. to find a location worthy of such a world-class event. We look forward to hosting the most fashionable people on the planet in this remarkable new setting," he said."

L'Orรฉal Paris is also on board with the move. "L'Orรฉal Paris is particularly excited that the new location's makeup and hair space will feature a large window to provide passersby a never-before-seen glimpse at the runway beauty magic unfolding at the hands of our beauty team," said Anik Gagnon, communications director for L'Orรฉal Paris.
