The 84-year-old Westin Embassy Row got a new name in November—it's now the Fairfax at Embassy Row—and unveiled 6,000 square feet of restored event space, much of which kept the original materials. Managed by Boston-based Pyramid Hotel Group LLC, the 259-room hotel offers six separate area for events.
With the original pine floors and walls, and a red and beige color scheme, the storied Jockey Club restaurant—a favorite of Nancy Reagan and Jackie Kennedy—seats 90 and added new windows to bring more light into the space. Adjacent is the nautical-themed Fairfax Lounge, which can accommodate 101 people and features a Steinway piano donated by the Kennedy family and a fireplace.
The restored 2,600-square-foot ballroom has a Georgian residential design style, with a 26-foot-tall gold medallion ceiling and reception room for as many as 500. The ballroom's balcony, which holds 100 and has large glass chandeliers and a stage area, can be combined with the adjacent Churchill Room to accommodate 130. Down a hall is the 30-person Hunt Room, with woodsy tones, beige leather chairs, and upholstered walls, and also the 50-person White Hall room.
The artwork in the event spaces and around the hotel include photographs and paintings of Washington around the time the Fairfax first opened.
