May 25, 2016: N.F.L. Awards Super Bowls to Atlanta, Miami, and Los Angeles, EBay to Bring StubHub Abroad, YouTube to Debut Gaming Event Pages With E3

1. N.F.L. AWARDS SUPER BOWLS TO ATLANTA, MIAMI, AND LOS ANGELES: The N.F.L. has awarded the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Super Bowls to Atlanta, Miami, and Los Angeles, respectively. The three cities were chosen based on investments in new stadiums or renovations to existing ones. Associated Press: "Atlanta will host its third Super Bowl, but the first at its new $1.4 billion stadium which opens in 2017. The previous two were at the Georgia Dome. Miami will have its record-setting 11th Super Bowl following a $450 million stadium renovation. Los Angeles, which gets the relocated Rams this season, has not had a Super Bowl in the area since 1993 in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The game will be played at the new $2.6 billion stadium in Inglewood, California, which opens in 2019. Tampa Bay and New Orleans were also in the running to host a Super Bowl. The selection of Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles maintains the recent cycle of the league's owners rewarding cities that have built new stadiums or renovated existing facilities with the lucrative financial reward of hosting a Super Bowl in return." http://apne.ws/1sze1XG

2. EBAY TO BRING STUBHUB ABROAD: EBay has announced it has acquired the Spain-based Ticketbis, and plans to roll the international ticket marketplace into StubHub in an effort to expand the company abroad. The deal would broaden the reach of StubHub—which eBay acquired in 2007—to 47 countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. TechCrunch: “Terms of the deal have not been disclosed but sources close to the company tell us it was a $165 million transaction. The deal is expected to close mid-2016. The $165 million price tag is a decent return for Ticketbis. The startup had raised just under $26 million, with investors including Fabrice Grinda, Active Venture Partners and Jose Marin. We understand it had projected a run rate of $45 million for 2016 after revenues of $25 million in 2015. It employs some 400 employees globally. … ‘In a world where the richest moments in life are becoming less about the things people have and more about the experiences they have to share, the acquisition of Ticketbis will allow us to connect millions more people with inspiring events,’ said Scott Cutler, President of StubHub, in a statement. ‘The only boundary to an incredible experience is access, and this acquisition will enable StubHub to offer more events on a global basis to fans and event-goers around the world, and to help them discover new ways to enrich their lives.’” http://tcrn.ch/1TwmzWq

3. YOUTUBE TO DEBUT GAMING EVENT PAGES WITH E3: In an effort to making finding video coverage of gaming events easier, YouTube Gaming will launch event pages. The hubs will provide video and commentary related to an event, starting with E3 in Los Angeles next month. The Next Web: "From the hub, you’ll be able to browse live streams or view new clips and trailers, chat with other gamers, or vote for your favorite trailers. The idea is that instead of trying to browse through a mess of videos and streams, you’ll be able to go to one page and view all the E3 news you’re interested in, including the event’s biggest press conferences." http://bit.ly/1qHDNrr
