Starwood to Bring High Style to Long-Term Guests

Starwood Hotels & Resorts will debut its newest concept—upscale extended-stay hotel accommodations (currently called “Project ESW”)—to hotel developers and hospitality pros at NYU’s International Hospitality Investment Conference next week. The hotel chain is working with residential architect Costas Kondylis (the man behind countless Trump towers and the Alex hotel) and design-firm-of-the-moment AvroKO (known for the smart interiors of New York restaurants Public, Sapa, Stanton Social, and Quality Meats) to create the spaces. Starwood plans to target 150 markets with these luxe setups, which will include the brand’s signature Heavenly Beds, Heavenly Baths, large modern kitchens, in-room offices, gourmet pantries, and other amenities.

The first Project ESW hotel will open in Lexington, Massachusetts, in late 2007, with a second to follow in San Francisco.

The hotel chain also announced recently that it has also joined forces with chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, his partner restaurateur Phil Suarez, and private equity firm Catterton Partners to create an international restaurant business that will license Vongerichten’s acclaimed venues, such as Spice Market, to new locations. The restaurants will be both freestanding and located within Starwood’s luxury hotel brands (W, Westin, Le Meridien, and St. Regis).
