* INCOMING *

1. CLINT EASTWOOD'S R.N.C. ACT: Before the Republican National Convention came to a close last night, the time slotted into the schedule marked as "mystery guest" was filled with a speech by actor-director Clint Eastwood. CNN: "[H]e laid out what he sees as the good, the bad and the ugly state of American political affairs. And he did it all while addressing an ‘invisible’ President Barack Obama sitting in an empty chair." After Eastwood's speech the Twitterverse went wild, with a newly started Twitter handle, @InvisibleObama (now suspended), that had 20,000 followers and the hashtag #Eastwooding. http://bit.ly/NAYgua

2. TARGETED TWEETS: Brands can now extend their Twitter reach by targeting promoted tweets and promoted accounts. AdWeek: "Twitter’s head of product marketing Guy Yalif said the company has compiled more than 350 interest categories—with 25 broad categories like movies that break down into more specific interests like comedy or horror—through the public signals its more than 140 million monthly active users send out every day, such as who they follow and what they tweet, to create audience segments brands can now target." http://bit.ly/RuRvJy

3. REAGAN HOLOGRAM: File this under “Weird but True.” AV Concepts created a hologram of former President Ronald Reagan that was supposed to be unveiled at the Republican National Convention; however, the idea was put on hold for fear of overshadowing Romney's acceptance speech. AV Concepts is the same company behind Coachella's buzz-generating hologram of Tupac. http://yhoo.it/UeGV9t

4. REPUBLICAN TRENDING TOPIC: Mitt Romney's presidential campaign has become the first to buy a national trending topic on Twitter. #RomneyRyan2012, the official campaign hashtag, generated 10,000 unique tweets by Thursday evening. Mashable: "'I really think that this convention is achieving what it set out to do, which was to provide a convention without walls,’  Zac Moffatt, Romney’s digital director, recently told Mashable. ‘I think that we really put an emphasis on being in line with the campaign.'" http://on.mash.to/ODdHk1

5. IMPROVING FACEBOOK RANK: The success of a brand's Facebook page is more than just how many fans said brand has, it's also about how many fans actually see the posts. A new Facebook algorithm, EdgeRank, controls that number to success. Brian Carter of PageLever, a Facebook analytic tool, has five tips for improving your EdgeRank.
