1. X GAMES DROPS OVERSEAS EVENTS: ESPN will no longer hold its X Games overseas, canceling its action sports showcases in Brazil, Spain, France, and Germany in 2014. It will continue with its domestic games in Aspen, Colorado, and Austin, Texas. ESPN said in a statement: "We are proud to have run world-class competitions for both the athletes and spectators; however the overall economics of these events do not provide a sustainable future path." http://xgam.es/15O9Up4

2. STRIKE FORCES CARNEGIE HALL TO CANCEL GALA: A stagehand strike forced Carnegie Hall to cancel its opening-night gala Wednesday that was to include a performance from the Philadelphia Orchestra and violinist Joshua Bell. The New York Times: "Last year’s opening-night gala raised nearly $2.7 million for Carnegie. This year’s had been set to begin with a cocktail reception at $1,000 a person, followed by a concert featuring music by Ravel, Saint-Saëns and Tchaikovsky, and to end with dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria, with tickets starting at $1,500 a person." http://nyti.ms/154juac

COAST TO COAST:  AFR Event Furnishings has entered into a preferred sales agreement with Classic Party Rentals, the companies announced Thursday.

BOSTON:  The Sens-ation Gala, benefitting the Massachusetts Eye and Ear's Curing Kids Fund, will take place at the Boston Marriott Copley Hotel on October 9. Winston Flowers, Rentals Unlimited, and AFR are handling decor.

On October 31, Emerald Lounge will host "Grid," a Tron-theme Halloween party. The night will include glow sticks, neon decor, a live DJ, and thematic rum cocktails.

CHICAGO:  The Midwest Regional Office of the U.S Fund for Unicef will host its third annual Chicago Humanitarian Awards Luncheon on October 25 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

The Joffrey Ballet’s Couture & Cocktails event takes place at Park West tonight.

DENVER:  The Colorado Convention Center has renewed its contract with event technology provider Smart City Networks for six years. The deal includes an upgrade to the center's Wi-Fi network that will double the capacity of the existing wireless network.

LAS VEGAS:  Las Vegas Sun: "The Las Vegas City Council denied a pair of tavern licenses Wednesday for the troubled nightclub Krave Massive and the Drink & Drag bar due to improper paperwork and questions about the the downtown venues’ owners." http://bit.ly/1c6ICBH

The third incarnation of IMEX America is set to open October 15 at the Sands Expo, and organizers have announced the addition of more than 80 new booths to this year’s lineup of global and U.S. exhibitors. The growth in new booths and a rise in demand for more space from previous exhibitors means that overall booth space will have increased by 17 percent compared to 2012.

LOS ANGELES:  Clear Channel Media and Entertainment announced its new music and events venue, iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles, which will launch October 22 with an album release party for Katy Perry. Located at the Burbank Studios, the 20,000-square-foot performance space will bring fans intimate performances from big-name artists, as well as other events.
