BrandLinkDC hosted a rooftop book party for Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell’s new book, Summer and the City, the second installment of the Carrie Diaries, on June 28. Having worked with Bushnell in the past, the company once again reached out to the author to add Washington to her current book tour and help showcase Boston Properties' new Foggy Bottom residential property, Residences on the Avenue.
“Because the Avenue is new, [the party] was to get people to see it and to showcase all it has to offer,” said BrandLink account manager Annie Perezchica, who organized the soiree for 125 people.
Though the party took place at the rooftop pool—reminiscent of the one in Sex and the City in which Samantha swam with then-boyfriend Richard—BrandLink showcased one- and two-bedroom apartments on the lower floors. Neiman Marcus Mazza Gallerie brought in a selection of designer gowns and accessories like Oscar de la Renta gowns, Valentino shoes, and Emilio Pucci scarves to create a closet à la Carrie Bradshaw.
“We thought the pairing of the Carrie Closet was a perfect segue to bring the Candace aspect [of the party] and the property together,” Perezchica said.
Guests received complimentary copies of the book, which Bushnell signed throughout the night. Design Cuisine Caterers waiters clad in pink shirts and white pants (a nod to the book’s jacket) served a variety of passed hors d’oeuvres like tuna tartare and tomato tartlets, complemented by pink and white drink options like Champagne and white and rosé wine. Georgetown Cupcake took care of desserts, with passed mini cupcakes on pink trays as the night wore on, and full-size cupcakes with a fondant topper of the book jacket in the gift bags.
