* INCOMING *

1. WHITE HOT:
Some 3,000 guest gathered at Lincoln Center in New York for the second annual Dîner en Blanc, a B.Y.O.-everything dinner party at which guests are asked to bring everything in white, from tables and chairs to their attire. Events firm French Tuesdays credits the gathering as "the world's first viral culinary event." WWD: "Twenty-four years ago, founder François Pasquier threw a small dinner in Paris to reconnect with friends. So many people wanted to attend that he advised partygoers to wear white so that they could find each other. The gathering grew each year by word of mouth and, in recent years, has taken place at the Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Now it’s become global: It will pop up in Philadelphia, Chicago, Singapore, Vancouver, and Brisbane, Australia, over the next two weeks." http://wwd.us/PUJiiv

2. NIKE'S CONTROLLED RELEASE:
There will be no midnight release events for Nike's Lebron X sneakers this fall, according to the athletic apparel giant. Nike has created buzz surrounding the $315 shoes, but it has ordered retailers to wait until 8 a.m. to begin selling them. Stores also must wait to post photos and descriptions of the shoes until after the launch. Huffington Post: "The move may be an aim to prevent lines of customers camped out for days and the sometimes-violent riots that have become expected with the release of a highly-anticipated shoe." http://huff.to/NfTNNw

3. BEAUTY POLITICS: Bliss, known for its pop culture-savvy product names, will make the country's skin smoother at the Republican and Democratic National Conventions with Obama- and Romney-inspired lotions. The New York Times: "The company will be handing out two new lotions: ‘O’bama, an orange-scented moisturizer packaged in Democrat blue, and ‘Mint’ Romney, in Republican red." http://nyti.ms/PrQKQO

4. WEIRD GIVEAWAYS:
Nike and Lacia Studios are connecting with ParaNorman movie fans through Twitter in the name of weirdness. AdWeek: "Fans who follow ParaNorman's official Twitter account @ParaNorman are asked to tweet awkward photos from their childhood, along with the hashtag #weirdwins, for a chance to win one of 800 pairs of Foamposite shoes inspired by the movie." http://bit.ly/NEurEB

5. MODEL PICK-ME-UP: A street promotion Friday from online shopping retailer Shoptiques.com will have models giving out hugs following a route from Soho to Columbus Circle. Mashable: "And in case you’re worried you might not get your turn at a friendly embrace, you can also book one in advance and/or 'track a model' on the website." http://on.mash.to/ONNhrv

6. HOTEL RATE PREDICTIONS: Low hotel room rates negotiated in 2009 and 2010 for meetings and conventions may account for higher rates in 2013, according to a trend analysis from Bjorn Hanson, divisional Dean of New York University's Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management. The results will play out in the corporate rate negotiating season, which begins in September and continues through December. Corporate and contract rates represent almost 20 percent of occupied room nights and almost 30 percent of U.S. lodging industry revenue.
