1. NEW SUPER BOWL TICKETING RULES TO DETER SCALPERS: A plan to require some people to pick up their Super Bowl tickets inside the stadium is meant to deter scalpers who resell their tickets for as much as five times their value. The N.F.L. also is considering jacking up the price of club-level tickets to the game to as much as $2,600 each. NEW YORK'S SOCIAL SCENE AFTER BLOOMBERG: Billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been a sought-after guest at the city's benefits and other social occasions, and event planners and publicists have begun to consider a changing landscape when his final term ends. 3. MARATHON BANS SELFIES DURING RACE: The Hong Kong Marathon is banning runners from taking photos of themselves on their mobile phones, popularly known as selflies, during the race. 4. WOULD YOU ATTEND A SILENT DINNER?: The restaurant Eat in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, held a silent dinner, the first in what it hopes becomes a monthly series. Eater: "The four-course, $40 prix fixe meal lasted for 90 minutes, during which the 17 diners who attended were not allowed to make a sound. ATLANTA:  Rathbun's reopens September 23 for dinner following a fire that closed it July 4. The restaurant used the time to make some renovations, including adding new kitchen equipment, painting the dining rooms, laying new carpeting in the private dining room, and refinishing the bar and bar tables.

BOSTON:  The Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival is September 28 from noon to 6 p.m. The festival will have three music stages, food and craft vendors, and family activities such as face painting and an "instrument petting zoo."

BG Events & Catering has a new wedding registry service with a spin. The site allows couples to register for event elements they'd like guests to contribute to, including upgraded china, lounge furniture, or a premium bar.

CHICAGO:  The 11th annual Chicago Toy & Game Fair will return to Navy Pier November 23-24. Two events will lead up to the fair: the PlayChic runway show combining fashion and toys November 21 at River East Art Center, and the Toy & Game Inventor Awards November 22 in the grand ballroom at Navy Pier.

The Chicago Fine Chocolate and Dessert Show is October 18-20 at Navy Pier. There will be a sugar art gallery, a demonstration stage, and interactive seminars.

LAS VEGAS:  Britney Spears revealed a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Tuesday morning with a live interview on ABC’s Good Morning America. She confirmed the anticipated news with a dramatic event staged in the middle of the Nevada desert. More than 1,300 people coordinated a large card stunt, more than 10 stories long and seven stories across, in the remote location to formally announce the start date of the star’s two-year show, “Britney: Piece of Me," which will debut December 27.

LOS ANGELES:  Jane Lynch will host the Rescue Train's 8th Annual 5K, 10K, 1K Dog Walk, Kids Fun Run, and Virtual Race at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on October 6. The day will raise funds for 15 nonprofit, no-kill animal welfare organizations.

Variety announced the honorees for the fifth annual Variety’s Power of Women luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel on October 4. Honorees include actresses Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Amy Poehler, and Elizabeth Banks, plus film executive Amy Pascal.

The American Film Institute’s A.F.I. awards are slated for January 10 and honorees will be announced on December 9.

The Broad, L.A.'s newest contemporary art museum on Grand Avenue downtown, will offer free general admission when it opens, slated for late 2014, founders Eli and Edythe Broad announced Tuesday.
